Hey girls! Does any of you have any experience with wearing corsets? I've finally made up my mind about buying this corset (or alternately, this corset) soon, but I'm kinda confused about the measurements. Google search told me that the narrowest part of my torso is meant by the "waist", but doesn't that part lay at different places and isn't it shaped very differently for each person? Can the corset take care of that? Also, I've done some measurements and found out that my waist size is about 28 inches. The site says that I should subtract 2-4 inches from that to find my corset size, which makes it about 26. However, the first corset (that I want the most) is only available in the size 28 now. Is the corset adjustable to smaller size or not? :/ Also, I've been kinda chubby lately and want to do something about that, so I'm hoping my size will go down eventually. (Of course I can buy more of them as the time goes, but they're kinda pricey, so...) I hope this doesn't sound stupid, thank you very much for any advice xD

I have quite some experience with corsets, I love them! would love to sew one but I have not had the courage to start on one yet.
what I can tell you about that corset is that the spiral boning is very good, especially when you are not used to wearing corsets. it moves with the body and is not as stiff as other steel boning, but it still gives a great amount of support.
yes, the waist does lay different on each person, with confection fashion this is a problem because not everybody is the same. this is why dresses on celebrity's always look awesome, they are made for them personally and will always fit great, in a normal shop this is sometimes problematic for people who have non standard measurements though. however, corsets eventually form to your body shape, so I do not think this will be a problem.
the corset will be pulled together with a rope, so it allows for some room in the measuring of the corset. but if the website tells you to take 2-4 inches of the measurement that is the best thing to do. if you do buy a 28 inch corset whilst you need a 26 one you will probably not be able to pull it tight, and that is of course the purpose of a corset. also, the fabric and boning need to set, it will probably get a bit bigger, and you will probably get used to it when you wear it more often and then you will want to have it a bit tighter. I do not think corsets are easy to adjust to smaller sizes, they are quite complicated. this is why they have strings in the back. maybe you could mail them and ask if a smaller size could be available?
I hope this helped, but let me know if you (or anyone else) would want more information ^^

Thanks a lot, Ishje, you've been such a great help!! ^^ Sewing a corset seems like a very complicated thing, but I'm sure you'll pull it off eventually! Thanks for the info about the spiral boning, it reassured me a lot! It's good to hear that even though I'm a total noob, I might not feel like I'm in a torture chamber when I start xD After looking at some questions customers asked at the company's website I've already figured out that buying a bigger corset than I need won't be a good idea, so I'll probably settle for the other one which is thankfully still in all sizes It is also cheaper and seems like a nice, simple piece to start with. (It actually looks almost the same except for the straps, but maybe I'd like the back side even more without the tying up to the neck, so it seems like a good choice.) And perhaps they'll already have made a new batch of the first one if I come back for more xD I'm looking forward to my steampunk career so much now lol (I hope it won't start and end with this corset OTL)

they are both very pretty, but I think the underbust corset in your size is a good way to start! and you are right, they are not expensive at all. I spend 150 euro's when I bought my first corset. if you have it make sure not to wear it too tight right away, it is a bit like with new shoes, you have to get used to it. it is better to wear it a bit spacious at first and then go tighter till you are comfortable enough. it might be better to wear it in the house for a couple of hours, just to get used to it
